Personal Auto vs. Trucking Liability
What constitutes a private passenger vehicle? A personal auto insurance policy is intended to cover private passenger vehicles. Additionally, a private passenger vehicle has a gross vehicle weight of 25,000 pounds or less. Thus, you cannot include a big rig semi-truck onto a personal insurance policy. This is where a commercial auto insurance policy is used. Moreover, when the vehicle has a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 or more, then truckers or trucking liability is needed.
Trucking Liability Requirements
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety a motor carrier must show proof of public liability insurance. Moreover, vehicles such as an 18-wheeler requires truckers’ liability. Additionally, truckers’ liability is also known as trucking liability. In addition, according to the Texas Motor Carrier Guide to Highway Safety, Form MCS-90 must be filed for motor carriers. Must Provide Proof of Trucking Liability Insurance
Motor carriers are inspected regularly. In addition to other requirements, one thing the official will look for is proof of public liability insurance. Moreover, the inspecting agent may look for the presence of a state filing called Form MCS-90. This is why truckers must be aware of the filing requirements as well as the trucking liability insurance limits. Thus, if a trucker is out of compliance, he may be heavily cited.
